Why being alone will be good for you

I thought I was going to die of loneliness, the pain was too much to bear and it feels like nothing’s going to work. Like the world is going to end right before your eyes. Well soon enough you will also realize that the world didn’t end and that people change – people leave and you remain where you are… and right at that moment you are alone.

You will realize that maybe it is better to be alone for a while because you just got too tired of trying to be better for everybody. You just got tired of everything and you decided to distance yourself from everyone. You either sleep, go to work go home take care of the kids, read articles online or watch your favorite TV series – mine would be watching KDrama, GoT, read books or start a new hobby that you can do on your own like I learned how to make accessories and learned to play the guitar, ukulele. You will feel that being alone isn’t as bad as you thought it was. That life gets better.

There will also be times when you feel that it’s so empty inside and there’s peace. Like the dawn where everything is quiet, calm, cooler and lighter. And there are times when you are excited, hyped or you overthink about a lot of things which is normal. And then you go back to being calm again. This is a part of that process I called healing alone. And healing alone worked really well for me.

Here are five benefits of being alone after you had a not so good life experience:

YOU GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED. Or it can be plans for the future, what you want to do and what you really want. You learn to appreciate the time you give to yourself and you feel good about it.

YOU CHANGE FOR THE BETTER, GIVING MORE TIME FOR YOURSELF AND LESS DRAMA. As soon as you get used to doing things on your own, living alone will make you realize that small issues don’t bother you at all, but you will also learn that overreacting to certain issues is not a good thing so you separate yourself from all the negativity and drama and just live as simple as being alone.

YOU MAKE AN EFFORT TO UNDERSTAND THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU. When you are alone, you become more aware of your surroundings especially with other people. You become observant and make an effort to understand people around you. You become more forgiving.

YOU BECOME MORE CREATIVE AND LESS STRESSED. You become more focused with work or your business and not too distracted by the daily responsibilities and issues of being in a relationship. This is important because all opportunities are open for you.

YOU LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF AND APPRECIATE THE BETTER YOU. Loving yourself is a good thing, when you fill yourself with love and respect it will show. Your skin is glowing, you are always smiling you become more friendly with everybody. So when this happens, you become more loving and giving to others. Other people will notice and since you learn to love yourself and be happy without someone to fill that need for you, you now have love to give. When you have love to give, it means that you’re ready to take the next step of finding someone who will appreciate the better version of you.

Today is a wonderful day. We praise you oh, Lord for saving my cousin from a motorcycle accident. We are so grateful that she survived that crash. Only bruises and stitches on her left eye! We are forever grateful for the miracle and blessings you gave to us today. We are grateful that you saved her today. It is truly a miracle, a good day to rejoice. I told her and her sister that they should count their blessings however scary things may seem. They probably thought that today is not the best day to think happy thoughts when someone is suffering but it is how we look at certain situations that makes a good outcome. God’s love shines to us in so many ways. He has his way of telling us that he will never leave us.

“Remember that I have commanded you to be determined and confident! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, am with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

Whenever unexplainable things happen to us. It is best that we calm ourselves and analyze the situation. We pray for guidance and we need to count our blessings however bad we may feel. We need to look around us. Listen and observe. Think about the people who are always at our side. Your family and friends who immediately went to check on you and your children. Strangers who helped you, made sure that you are okay. The strangers whom God uses to reach out to help you. Because God knows what you need. Because God is here for us and God will never leave us. He will show his love for you through the people around you. That is so amazing! That’s true love.

Have a Blessed Monday.

Luneta Park: Dad’s unexpected visit

My Dad.

We were riding the Jeepney to visit his good friend in the nearby hospital when he said: “The last time I was here was when you were a baby.”

My Dad, is one of the most kindest and most patient man you’ll ever meet. He worked hard to feed a family of five kids and give all he can to help my Mom and her family. The most generous man I’ve ever met. I learned from him the value of loyalty for the company you work for, to be a good friend to those whom you cherish the most. He said that we need to learn to be more kind and be more compassionate of others.

He worked as a supervisor in a food corporation for 39 years. I am his very proud daughter. And did I mention that he is the extreme opposite of my Mom.

He always tell me to forget the men who broke my heart. Forget them right away. They do not deserve the attention I give them. Yes, I am open to my Mom and my Dad about my relationships. I am lucky to have parents who does not judge me by my decisions and accepts all my flaws and imperfections. I’m so grateful to have them in my life.

Going back to my Dad’s Saturday adventure, after visiting his good friend. We ride a jeep going back to the park. I told Dad that we need to drop off, he looked around and got a little bit excited, so I let him walk today in Luneta Park. If you can only see how his face lights up! God, how I wish I can take him to all the places he would like to go.

While we were walking he said: “They made it bigger and much better than it was before.” then he continued walking along the path smiling.

It would be a wonderful plan to take Dad to other good places too. Places that need him to walk longer and restrooms should be nearer. And the air is fresher. I might need to save more for the family. But for today, I think I did a great job. From a sleepless Friday night for me to a more rewarding Saturday walk in the park with my Dad.

Christmas is just around the corner

Only a week before December starts and a lot of people are into the Holiday Cheer. I hope next year will give us more reason to smile, meet new friends and cherish good memories with old friends and families.

Here in the Philippines, if you’re a catholic we celebrate the Lenten season by going to church either early morning or late at night. In my hometown, we have a festival and we have a band waking people as early as 5 am to let everyone know it’s time to go to church. That’s what we call Misa de Gallo My kids can do that, unfortunately for me I need to work night shift so I’m not able to. But It’s best to encourage teens to experience and participate in the community. By doing so, teens learn to appreciate what they have in their neighborhood. By participating in these activities, it creates good memories too.

Apart from the celebrations within the community my neighbors are organizing a small party for all of us, exchanging gifts for the kids and for the adults, then food sharing.

Inside the house, my kids and I are planning to just keep the celebration simple and we might skip the decorations for this year. It depends really on how you plan it with the kids.

It does not really matter how simple or extravagant we celebrate our holiday season, what matters most is that we are grateful for another year that has passed and we are still together as a family, as a couple (if you’re in a relationship). And that the real message of Christmas is in our thoughts and hearts.

16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 niv

Silently loving

Lovely Saturday night, sitting on the floor

Coffee next to me, I wonder what you do

How you spend your Saturday nights too

Stuck in my thoughts, of only wanting you

trying to keep this feeling to myself

trying to keep our conversations short

putting my feelings on a shelf

keeping my heart unhurt.

And my heart longs for a love that’s for real

I think about it day and night

like the wind that pass me by in the morning

the same air you’ll feel at night

to touch your face, kiss you that’s what I want to do

I want you to rescue me from the cold truth

that in this real world not like in my own thoughts,

there is love to have and to hold

but then again, I can just love you in silence

love you in my thoughts and my own time

until it all fades, until it dies a silent death.
